The first part (pp. 1-178) is a reprint of “Exotics” (1876) with some additions, Novalis being represented not only by his Spiritual songs but by his hymns to the night and a parable (in prose). There are 14 translations from Schiller (against 11) and eight from Heine (against four). The “ Diary of an old soul ” occupies pp. 179-302.
