“ In this book I have sought to trace the course of our religious poetry from an early period (the 13th century) of our literary history.” Dr. Greville MacDonald thinks that if the book had a better reception than his father’s “ Hamlet,” it was because from its label, ” for Sunday reading,” the “flock suspected that it would suit their digestions”. MacDonald published “Guild Court,” “Robert Falconer ” and “ The Seaboard Parish ” in the same year (1868).
