In the introduction (pp. 1-7), MacDonald says “there are harder things to believe than miracles” and he holds that “a man is not required to believe in miracles save as believing in Jesus.” In speaking of Christ, MacDonald prints the pronoun “he” without a capital. The volume is analysed in Johnson’s “George MacDonald,” pp. 160-167.
